- Peklo's famous guest - King Charles IV
WHO DIDN´T VISIT PEKLO,HE WASN´T IN PRAGUE
welcome .....

The restaurant is situated in the precincts of a wine cellar which belongs to 12th century order of Premonstratensian of Strahov . In the 14th century King Charles IV brought French wine grapes to Prague, and the clever Premonstratensians proceeded to produce wine many believe is better than the French original.(even though Czech weather is a deterrent). King Charles IV recognized the accomplishment by granting heraldry to the order ( a casting of which now hangs over the bar ), and often visited to sample the wine. Over the years , many celebrites cellar have visited , including famous Czech writers Alois Jirásek and Karel Václav Rais .
More recent celebrity visitors have included the president of Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus, the singer Karel Gott, and the actor Timotty Dalthon... . The original chambers of Peklo (The Hell) have been preserved, though many secret corridors are no longer accessible. The name Peklo (The Hell) originated because the gardens above were called ”In the Paradise” so everything located under the gardens must be ”the hell”. The restaurant is organized in two parts; the upper part is a typical-looking wine cellar, with a small lake resulting from leaks in the wall.
In contrast, the lower part has the high ceilings of the remaining church. The restaurant specializes in Czech cuisine and Moravian wines, because the vineyards above Peklo have been devoured by time. Come and sit down. Get a taste of the old-time atmosphere, and if you are receptive maybe the cellar will tell you something more.
